Data stacks
One application for which I used data stacks was an attempt to calculate flow rate from pressure head. The application was the addition of colours and flavours to a confectionary product and the required flow rates were very low. It was felt that a series of flow transmitters was an expensive and over-the-top solution, yet accuracies asked for and shifting conditions meant that simply setting the dosing pumps at a set rate was not adequate. So, the basic idea was to store the additives in small diameter, tall tubes so that we could measure the pressure head using inexpensive transmitters. We then stored the changing pressure head in stacks on a time interrupt basis and tried to extrapolate achieved flow rate from the stored data. As you might gather, we had mixed success, although we never really got the opportunity to develop it properly. In any case, the point is an idea of the kind of thing for which you might use a data stack.
