Galvanic Isolation between sections A and B of a circuit is having no conductive path between A and B.
If the design requires signals to pass from A to B this can be accomplished by an optical isolator (optoisolator), while maintaining Galvanic isolation.
A transformer can pass either signals or power between sections A and B while Galvanic isolation is maintained.
Either the optoisolator or the transformer has a maximum voltage rating. Above this rating, Galvanic isolation cannot be guaranteed.
