Servo drive VS AC drive

First, regard to the precision and control mode, servo drive is better than AC drive. Servo drive can control position, angle etc, while the AC drive can't, even if it can, but can't reach the same accuracy.

Second, the servo drive requires higher performance for the electric motor than AC drive. Servo drive and servo motor are related together, or try best to buy from the same manufacturer, while ac drive has better choice, you can get it and the motor from different suppliers.

Third, the price, AC drive price is much cheaper than servo drive, at least 20% or higher.

Regard to the control point, the servo drives and vector variable frequency drive are almost same, Just the servo drive control synchronous motor, vector variable frequency drive control asynchronous motors, their main difference is the ac drive controls the electric motor speed. Servo drive can control the speed as well as position and movement.

They are very different, variable frequency drive mainly for three-phase motor (normal motors), it's used for variable motor speed control, as long as the power of three-phase motors are match it.

Servo drive is used for servo motors, in general, one type servo drive can only be equipped with one type servo motor, the purpose of using a servo is precise positioning and accurate speed, it is difficult to produce high power servo drive and of course the price is very expensive.

General applications, for high-speed high-precision positioning it needs servo drive, high-power applications use variable frequency drive.

Like central air conditioning systems, elevators and other lots of applications can use ac drive; In textile machinery, SMD machine, plug machine need servo drive. In fact, many cases are integrated those two systems in conjunction with the necessary requirements of the applications.
